Areas of specialization: Early modern painting, sculpture, and (especially) architecture. Cultural contacts and cultural transfer. Northern Europe, ca 1500-1800.

Kris Neville is particularly interested in the international aspects of the arts in the early-modern period, and particularly with the integration of regions and traditions that have traditionally been seen as distinct into a more synthetic history of art. He is currently working on a book project focusing on the cultural history and significance of the Stockholm court in northern Europe in the later seventeenth century – from Queen Christina to Charles XII. Other ongoing interests include the work of the Tessin family, and early-modern ideas about the tribal origins of the European nations.
